This is the full 7-18-11 episode of the Labor Express Radio program.
On today’s program I bring you the third and final installment of my update on the lockout of 228 Steelworkers in Metropolis Illinois. In this segment I talk with Local 7-669’s allies, in both the Steelworkers International and immigrants rights activists in Los Angles who worked with union members to block a Honeywell contract in that city. Honeywell has not only locked-out its workers in Metropolis, but it was an Arizona division of the company that sought the LA contract in violation of the city’s ban on business with Arizona based companies because of Arizona’s draconian anti-immigrant laws.
We will also hear about a group of workers at a Best Western Hotel in Downtown Chicago who are fighting discrimination by their employer. And we will hear about an upcoming event organized by the Local branch of the IWW addressing discrimination against Muslim and immigrant workers. NOTE, THE DATE OF THE IWW EVENT MENTIONED IN THE PROGRAM HAS BEEN CHANGED TO JULY 29th!
